4′ x 8′ Hollywood Flat

  • Is a frame that is hard-covered and is used to create ‘walls’ on stage.
  • Hollywood flats are also referred to as studio or TV flats.
  • They are typically built out of 1 x 3 (nominal size) pine, with the framing pieces laid on edge on the floor when assembling, and then covered on one side with a ‘hard cover’ like ¼” luan.
  • For maximum strength and stability, use appropriate fasteners and wood glue.
  • Please note that when dimensions of lumber are given, the actual size will be followed by an inch (1”) or foot (1’) mark, while the nominal size will not.
  • Example: Nominal size = 1 x 3 vs Actual size = ¾” x 2 ½” (Learn more here)
  • Always check for square!
